Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to our overarching data strategy and analytics roadmap. Leverage data to shape long-term decisions around product, user engagement, and business opportunities.

  • Champion a data and experiment driven culture throughout the company. Work alongside our developers and designers to ensure data informs product iterations, decision making, and content production.

  • Extract interesting insights from massive troves of chess data. The world of chess provides lots of openly available data, but from a data science perspective we believe it is greatly underutilized.

We are looking for you who

  • Have proven experience in data science, analytics, or a similar role—ideally in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment.

  • Demonstrate strong technical proficiency, especially in Python, SQL, and data pipeline/orchestration tools. (Our main application backend is written in Rust)

  • Show sound knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods, plus hands-on experience in model training, validation, and deployment.

  • Have excellent communication skills for explaining insights to both technical and non-technical team members.

  • Embrace a hands-on, proactive mindset—comfortable taking the lead on projects with minimal oversight.

  • Are excited about chess, whether you’re an avid player or just curious about the game, and eager to help reshape how the world experiences it.

What we can offer you

  • Join a small, passionate team backed by some of the most prominent names in the chess world and tech investment circles.

  • Play a pivotal role in redefining how the world engages with chess—helping us turn it into an emotional spectacle that captivates fans across the globe.

  • We’re an in-house team based in Oslo, and we love collaborating closely in the office — still, we’re quite flexible regarding where and how individual work gets done.

  • Receive a competitive salary and stock options, ensuring you share in our success as we grow.

  • Travel opportunities to see major chess events firsthand—and be part of creating a new era for the sport.
